Competitive Bidding Over NT

SPECIAL 3-week Course with Joe Byrnes & Jeff Badler

Thursdays from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Beginning December 8th, 2022

Your partner opens 1NT and you have a 5 card or longer suit, you have learned to transfer to that suit and then make a bid that shows your strength.  For example.

1NT     2H*    2S    3NT         * transfer to S

BUT  What do you do if your opponents interfere after the NT opening?    For example

Partner in N      Opponent in E    You in S

1NT                2 clubs                           ?

Or

1NT                2 hearts                        ?

Or

1NT                X (double)                  ?

How do we distinguish our bids to show weak, invitational or stronger hands?

The first hand is weak, the second is invitational and the third has enough points for game.

How do we respond to give the opener more information about your hand?

This comes up often in duplicate bridge and most beginner players are either not interfering over opponent’s NT bids or do not know what to do if your opponent interferes.

THAT is what this new mini course is all about. In Competitive Bidding over NT, Joe Byrnes and Jeff Badler will teach you the most useful tools to answer your partner after opponents interfere.

We will also teach you when you should interfere after the opponents open 1NT.

Lebensohl and Meckwell are two of the most powerful bidding conventions everyone should know. And they are the solutions to the problems of interference over NT openings. Lebensohl and Meckwell are the conventions this 3-lesson mini course will cover.

Thursday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET on Dec 8, 15 & 22.  If you miss a class, don’t worry. Everyone will get a recording of each class, pre lesson exercises, class notes and the hands that were played with explanations.  This is the 8th mini course collaboration between Jeff Badler and Joe Byrnes.
