Successful Sacrifice Bidding

SPECIAL 3-week Course with Joe Byrnes & Jeff Badler

Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 11:00 am
October  11th, 18th and 25th

Here is an auction we have all seen.

1S   2H   2S   4H

You opened the bidding with 1S. Now what? You are not confident you can make 10 tricks in spades, but you are pretty sure they can make 10 tricks in hearts. Let the opponents play the contract and your team will lose 420 points. However, if you bid to 4S and you go down 2 tricks, even doubled for penalty is -300, a better outcome for your team.

You understand the basic concept of sacrifice bids. But you know how and when in the auction to use them? Do you understand the risks?

How about looking at this from the other team’s perspective? You and your partner have strong enough hands to be in game. You open 1H  P  3H  3S    Your opponent has overcalled after your partner supported your hearts.  What should you do? Bid to 4H and get the contract, presumably making 420 points, or double them for penalty and make them pay a high price for sacrificing? How do you decide?

THAT is what the new Successful Sacrifice Bidding mini course is all about.  Joe & Jeff will teach you how to make these decisions.

Here are some examples:

You are in North’s seat. West has opened a preemptive 3 spades. What do you do?

What about this one?  You are in North. Your partner opened with a weak 2 bid. You know he has 6 hearts and a relatively weak hand. West doubles. You have a weak hand but with 5 of partner’s suit. You have an 11 card fit in hearts! What would you do?

You may have experienced auctions like this before. Your partner opens 1 spade and the opponents are battling you in hearts. Do you let them play in 5 hearts? Do you double them for penalty? Or do you go to 5 spades and cheer your partner on?

The fun will not stop in this course. Instead of staring at your hands trying to figure out what to do…LEARN what to do!

This is the first time that Joe and Jeff are tackling this. Every player has been stumped by these decisions. That is why you need to learn these skills. They have a goal…to enable you to confidently make decisions in these competitive bidding situations.

This is the 8th mini course that we have done together. Those who have taken their mini courses are substantially stronger players than those who did not.

They will give you pre lesson exercises to try, and then explain the solutions before having you try many examples on your own. A mini lesson will be sent to you on scoring, so you can see the risks or sacrificing.

Extensive notes and recordings will be provided, so you never have to worry about missing a class. Intended for Post Beginner 4, advanced beginners and low intermediate players. Three consecutive weeks beginning Tuesday Oct 11th from 9-11 AM.

Email to register.

The cost is $180 for 3 classes, $150 with EASY PASS.
